The Magical Effects of Smiling (How Smiling Affects the Brain)
(Scroll down for Video)

Did you know that each time we smile a release of neuropeptides which work toward fighting off stress is activated?  Neuropeptides are very small molecules which allow our neurons to communicate.  They send messages to our bodies when we are excited, depressed, happy, sad, etc.
Our feel good chemicals, serotonin, dopamine and endorphins are released every time we smile.
When we smile, the serotonin which is released acts as an anti-depressant and endorphins act as natural pain relievers; our heart rate and blood pressure decreases and our bodies relax.

A wise saying states that smiling is contagious.  Research indicates that this statement is true.  The cingulate cortex region of our brains is responsible for our facial expressions.  Since it is an unconscious, automatic response area, research shows that when others smile at us our brains mimic their behavior.  In this way, smiling creates harmonious relationships and allows senders and receivers to release calming & natural feel-good chemicals in our brains; it also activates the reward centers.  Smiling makes us more attractive and as research indicates smiling also helps us live longer, happier and healthier lives.

Wishing you Wellness,
